The boys have always touched each other, held hands, etc. It seems that now though, they are really beginning to notice one another and they often insist on being close. This is Connor reaching out to Collin. Collin's hand is under Connor's arm and touching him. I'll try to work to get a better shot.

Today we ran to school, got lunch, went to Sam's, dropped the boys off with my mom and cousin, did some banking business, and had dinner. Tomorrow should be a slower day. We have a busy day tomorrow, so hopefully we'll get some pictures at some point.

Collin was my model this afternoon for trying on their beach attire. The boys had a good day and are enjoying the beautiful weather.

Collin chilling during his bath this morning.

Connor getting ready to play in the tub. As you can tell, Connor (front seat) wasn't too happy about being in the stroller. Thankfully he enjoyed the majority of his adventure.

Today was a beautiful day. The boys only woke up once through the night, went back down easily, and slept until after 7...although Connor joined us in our bedroom in his bouncy seat at 6. We made a quick trip to Walmart, had lunch with their cousins, and made dinner for cousin Jarett. The boys went with Daddy this afternoon up to the quick mart to get a candy bar that Mommy needed to make tonight's dessert. We are keeping our fingers crossed for another uneventful night!

It feels good to begin this project. Today was a beautiful day that we shared with friends. Our friends Erik and Sarah got the boys these shirts. Aren't they funny?!!! They look SO big in them and their sweatpants. However, we are starting to regain some of our sanity and I have a new crazy goal: to post a picture of the boys each day on the blog. I'm hoping it will be a great way to remember the last 9 months of their first year. Of course I won't always get around to posting, but I'll do my best. I'm also hoping to find time soon to go back and record some of our memories of the first hours and days with the boys. Wish me luck~ Rebecca

They're here!

Collin Thomas White was born at 8:42pm last night. He weighed 6lbs 2oz and is 21in long. Connor Alan White was born at 8:57pm last night. He weighed 6lbs even and is 19in long. Mom did an amazing job. She was determined to have those babies vaginally and she sure succeeded.

Collin had some trouble breathing when he first came out. He had some stuff in his lungs that hadn't completely cleared out yet. They decided to put him in the NICU to help him with his breathing. They put a CPAP machine on him to help force air into his lungs to help clear them out. I believe they removed the CPAP at about 3:30 this morning. He is doing much better. They think he will be out of the NICU sometime later today.

Connor is doing well. He was able to breastfeed from Rebecca several times throughout the night. I think they will get the hang of it very quickly. He was able to open his eyes pretty much from the beginning. They are both pretty cute if I do say so myself.

Pictures will follow. I currently don't have any pictures on this computer so I'll have to do another post when I get to the other laptop. We have to go to the hospital tomorrow morning at 530am to get the ball rolling. The nurses will put a probe on the first baby to monitor him. Doing this will cause the water to break and start the process. They will also give Becca pitocin to help with the contractions. Our doctor seemed to think that all Becca would need was a little help to "get over the hump" and then every thing would happen very quickly. So by tomorrow night this time I should be a father. I don't think I'm quite able to grasp that concept yet. I think it will take some time. Kerry is out of town working, and mom went to St. Louis with my cousin to the doctor, so Dad was kind enough to accompany me. Both babies are still head down and appear to be positioned much the same as 4 weeks ago. This is great news, because it would be nearly impossible for a baby to rotate at this point...reducing my chances of a c-section. Of course, I know that the possibility still exists in the case of complications or Baby B rotating when Baby A exits. Just keep your fingers crossed!

Both my Dad and my granny thought that today, Groundhog's Day, would be the day for the arrival of the boys. After telling us about his Mexican bass fishing adventure, I was examined. Babies sound good, but not much is happening. I'm still effaced about 75% and now dilated 1-2 cm. So, only minor progress if any. I had to reschedule the ultrasound for Monday, so we'll be checking to see if they are both still head down then. I'll see the doctor again on Thursday. However, tentatively we will deliver on Wed. Feb 11th, unless they come before. If one is breach, he will do a C-Section that morning. If they are both head down, he will begin to induce me either late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning. Regardless, we are excited to know that they will be here that day. He reminded me that he knows I'm exhausted, but enjoy it because it will be a different type of exhaustion in a couple of weeks, or before. He also thanked me for waiting to have them until he returned from Mexico.

Soooo, we are excited to know that they will be with us in no more than 13 days. We did get to see a different doctor in the practice since our doctor is vacationing. He said I'm 75% effaced and 1 cm dilated...which means...well nothing. They'll come when they are ready, no matter how far I've progressed. Next week we do a quick ultrasound to check their positioning, and see our normal doctor on Thursday. I'd be okay to skip the appointment and be home with my babies! Could I be so lucky? Last night I did have a fairly uncomfortable several hours, but things calmed down when I went to bed. Tonight would be better since Kerry is in St. Louis and could get home easily for the delivery. Boys, you listening????

Dear Boys,

I know that you hear me talk to you often, but I thought maybe if I put my words into writing, you would take me seriously. Momma's ready to meet you! I know, I know....some people think I'm jumping the gun and think you need to brew a bit longer, but you guys and I know that you don't have any space left to brew. It must be time you come out and grow with us! This morning when Daddy came home, he said that mommy's belly looks like a nuclear reactor with all the different colors and energy running through it. He didn't mean to be rude to you guys I know, but I did tell him that you boys might want to give him a little squirt in the face when you arrive for that comment. Just wanted to remind you that we are more than ready when you are! I won't be surprised either way. I have had contractions, and the doc on call prescribed a med to relax the uterus, but I've only taken it once. I spent the day in math curriculum meetings, so I was able to sit for the majority of the day. I did have to ask a few of my fellow co-workers to tie my shoes for me, but after some grins, they obliged. After waiting for an hour (old women seem to take a long time behind that closed door), I was pretty uncomfortable. Surprisingly, my blood pressure was fine. I told the nurse that I have been feeling pressure and have been sore since about Friday. I wasn't sure if the doctor should examine me or not (he normally wouldn't until 36 weeks), because I didn't want him to disturb things if it wasn't necessary. Regardless, he decided to examine me and came back with good news and bad news.

Good news is that I am not dilated. Bad news is that Baby A is pretty low...at -1 station, which means that he is just 1 cm from being fully engaged in the birth canal (they measure from -3 to 3...at which point the baby is pretty much out). Also, my cervix is almost fully thinned. He said that he could have broken through the remainder of the cervix, but choose not to for obvious reasons.

He sat and pondered our options, and decided to put me on bed rest until Friday when he would examine me again. He said that we are entering the gray area (34-36 weeks), in which you don't want the babies born, but things probably would be okay. He debated sending me to the hospital today to be put on bed rest and given 2 steroid shots, each 24 hours apart that would help mature the babies lungs. That will be the plan on Friday if my labor has progressed. I have strict orders to head directly to the hospital if I have any complications before Friday.

So, it sounds like the babies may arrive in the next week or two...but only the big man upstairs really knows. My long-term sub was in my room for the first time today while I was in meetings, so at least she had one day of really good lesson plans lined out for her. Hopefully she will manage okay tomorrow. I plan to go to school for a bit after the kids are gone to meet with her.

Thankfully I am still able to move around, use the restroom, and do light house chores while on bed rest. Kerry will be home during the day tomorrow, but will be leaving tomorrow night. Hopefully the boys will stay snug with momma until he returns Sunday night....if not, we will do the best we can to get him home.

So, say an extra prayer today that all goes well in the next week or so....sounds like our little miracles will be arriving before we know it!

I am Thankful For (in a random order)....

1. We underestimated the might of these kiddos. According to today's measurements at 32 weeks, Baby A weighs 4 pounds 7 ounces and Baby B weighs 4 pounds 8 ounces for a combined weight of almost 9 pounds of BABY....that doesn't include TWO placentas, TWO sacks of fluid, etc. However, these weights can be off by up to 1 pound (hopefully leaning to the smaller side). They remain right on track in the 62nd and 65th percentiles. However you look at it...they are big boys.
2. They are both head down!!! At this point, it is still possible that they could shift, but less likely...especially because they were positioned the same way 4 weeks ago.
3. If they remain head down, I will get to deliver vaginally, and if all goes well, I will get to do it in a normal birthing room (YEAH!!! NO operating room!).
4. Again, if all goes well, the doctor expects them to be born close together, as in within a minute or two. I guess Baby A will do all the work for Baby B!
5. They have hair!
6. Baby A is very low, facing towards the center of my belly with his rump up high and hands and feet in the center. We were able to see a few glimpses of his little face.
7. Baby B's head is just a bit higher and to my left with his rump up high and hands and feet also in the center. He is more confined. He is VERY shy and since he was facing my back, there is no longer a way to see his little face.
8. We caught a glimpse of Baby B practice breathing which is an excellent sign that if I would go into labor, his lungs would be in pretty good shape.
9. I am to go to the hospital immediately if I begin contracting because he will try to stop my labor at this point...he really wants me to get to 37-38 weeks. I suppose I'll pose the same question again at 34 weeks when I go back.
10. I can keep working as long as I feel able....he said he knows I will be exhausted, sore, achy, etc....but bedrest would be miserable too. I think I'll opt for either working a couple half days or taking Wednesdays off.
11. He thinks their growth will be slowing down now....I think we heard this same thing about 4 weeks ago!!!
12. These may be the largest twins he has ever delivered....he has never delivered a set larger than 7 pounds....leave it to us to be different.

We hope that you enjoyed Christmas! We did, and now are trying to catch up on much needed rest. Kerry is back to work for a few days, and I'm hoping to get caught up on things around the house. I head to the doctor on Tuesday for another ultrasound as well as my 32 week appointment. We are VERY interested to see the weight and positioning of the boys - nothing will surprise me. I really think that they will be close to 4 pounds each. I'm also hopeful that my doctor will give me some sort of action plan...although he is fairly laid back, I imagine I won't learn a whole lot.

I'm hoping to be able to go back to work next week, but will do what he suggests. Sleep is getting very difficult, mainly because I can't find a comfortable position. Also, the babies seem to be very high, and my upper abdomen aches at night. When I wake up throughout the night, I feel extreme pressure up high and it takes quite a bit of massaging and movement to get the babies back down a bit. They are simply running out of space.

I've been taking a nap most afternoons which is helpful...that is one concern about going back to work as well as the increase of swelling. I may do a couple half days every now and then, or work a few days and take one off. Besides missing the pay, I know that I would be worried about my class if I was just laying around the house.

Speaking of school, the faculty and staff had a baby shower for us before break and loaded us up with lots of goodies. I was SHOCKED at everything we received. Everyone (family, friends, and colleagues) has been very generous to us...we are so grateful.

We have all their furniture now and everything is put together, washed, and ready to go. My parents even helped us hang a few things on the wall. I plan to get my bag and the babies' bag packed this week...just in case. Any suggestions on things to take that I might forget from all you seasoned veterans?

Kerry's January schedule is going to allow him to be home about 16 days...we hope that he won't be too far away when/if the time comes. We both realize that the possibility exists that he won't be able to be there if I go into labor...however, we are keeping our fingers crossed that things will work out.

Well, the babies' movements are consistently very intense, and borderline painful...even as I type. It is SO cool to feel their movements so often, and know that they are fighting for the last remaining space. At the same time, it is frustrating to have to kneel down to pick up things off the floor, have someone tie my shoes, and water my Christmas tree...I've never felt this helpless!!!

Keep us in your thoughts and prayers....we want our boys to be healthy and here with us as soon as possible!

28 Week Ultrasound Pics

Better late than never....these were taken on December 2nd during our 28 week growth check. She and Ryan and the kids worked very hard at adding a lot of creative touches to make the day special. My favorite were her decorations, which matched the invitations. She used Nicole, Dominic and Kelly's feet to make little painted feet to hang everywhere. Nicole and Dominic were very proud of them, and Nicole made sure that I knew that Kelly really didn't enjoy the paint on his feet. Take a peek, they were hanging everywhere!

She even used little socks to decorate...and check out the cupcake cake that she made. Every part of the cupcake is edible....they were unbelieveable. I just couldn't bring myself to biting a head off, but Dominic showed me how after the shower!

Lots of family and friends joined us for a great afternoon. Again, we were blessed with lots of great gifts for Collin and Connor including both bouncy seats, car seats, the pack 'n play, and the stroller. We were amazed, and very grateful! My niece Nicole kept the gift unwrapping moving VERY quickly, and she was amazed with the smallest items. She loved getting to help. Dominic enjoyed the time with Daddy and Uncle Kerry. I just can't resist posting this picture of him before the shower. He was very excited to see 'Eery'.

We'll post some pics of all the goodies we received soon.

Thanksgiving

Kerry and I journeyed to Connecticut for the Thanksgiving holiday. We were both a bit leery about me traveling (as was my family), but I did okay. Thankfully, we managed to get on all the flights that we attempted, so we didn't have much down time in the airports. I felt like a fool walking the aisle of the small 50 passenger jets, but I knew that I had to move around a bit to keep the blood flowing. The boys weren't too thrilled about flying out there, as they beat me up the entire trip. However, Kerry says that they were just so excited about their first flight....maybe, but it didn't feel that way!

We ate Thanksgiving dinner with many members of his mother's family and enjoyed getting to know some folks better. Kerry's mother had a very nice baby shower for us on Friday evening. We were able to see and visit with several other members of his family as well as several of his friends. We received many nice gifts, and even one that was a bit unusual (thanks Devon and Donna for the Pee Pee Tee pees for the Sprinkling Wee Wees)! All the gifts made it safely back home with us and have all found homes. We are very thankful for the goodies! Here are a few pics from the evening.

Ultrasound

Sorry for not writing earlier about our ultrasound appointment. The days have flown by, and by the time I have an extra minute, I am exhausted....and now we know one reason for the exhaustion ~ both boys are weighing 2 pounds, 12 ounces according to the ultrasound measurements(Baby A-65th percentile & Baby B - 61st percentile). So, I am currently carrying about 5.5 pounds of baby, plus all the fluid, etc. We are very grateful that they seem to be growing healthy, but I've really been feeling the extra load this week! I am currently 28 weeks along, and up until this point, the babies have been growing at the same rate as a single baby. However, their growth should begin to slow now, according to what our doctor told us at our last appointment. Our appointment this week was canceled because he was sick, so we will be going back this Friday.

During the ultrasound, both babies were head-down...we've been having lots of talks about this lately, and I was glad to know that they are such good listeners! Hopefully they will be in this position when it comes to delivery.

I hope to find more time to write soon...we have several pictures to share and have had 2 baby showers since Thanksgiving.

Drumroll Please...

After much thought, consideration, research, debate, and prayer, we are ready to introduce the final decision (but some little folks continue to insist on their names being Chip and Dips - which is okay with us)...

Collin Thomas & Connor Alan White.

Kerry came up with both first names long before our big twin surprise. I liked both of them, and then really couldn't think of another pair of names that I liked together. Kerry debated for a long time, but ultimately, couldn't come up with anything he was satisfied with...so we're going with our gut instinct. Originally, we were going to spell Collin with only one 'l', but then decided to use two to keep it consistent with the two 'n's in Connor.

Thomas was Kerry's dad's name, and we felt strongly about using it with our family. Alan is my dad and brother's middle names, and we thought it would be special to include it as well. It was easy to decide which first name to put with which middle name.

We've been staying very busy, and I've been feeling pretty good. Tomorrow we go for a 28 week growth check ultrasound. Please pray that both Collin & Connor are continuing to grow strong and healthy. We will try to update soon~

Orange or Fruit Punch

I had a choice between orange or fruit punch flavors for the glucose tolerance test. I was originally just going to have the test on the 2nd of December, when we head back to the doctors for my 28 week visit and growth check ultrasound. However, I was concerned that it might be too much to swallow: 28 ounces of water an hour prior to the ultrasound, then arrive and drink the 6 ounces of pure sugar, then lay through the ultrasound for an undetermined amount of time while the tech attempts to find and measure lot of body parts on both babies (they don't hold still too well), get my blood drawn... all before I can go to the bathroom. Doesn't sound like fun!

So, I stopped by the doctor's office yesterday and did the hour long test since I was able to leave school a few minutes early due to curriculum meetings. The test was a breeze and the liquid wasn't as nasty as many had told me. I'm sure the office will call if the results are abnormal, but this way we'll be able to ask about it when we head to our next appointment anyway. AND...hopefully I'll be able to enjoy the ultrasound a bit more.

I felt pretty good last week and was hoping that I'd have several more good weeks. However, this week I've been feeling pretty crampy and tight when standing. I'm pretty much worthless in the evenings around the house, but we're surviving thanks to some helpers. We are so greatful that I'm doing as well as I am...I could easily be on bedrest at this point...and that wouldn't be any fun!

Notice our new survey on the sidebar. Please take a moment and vote before we make the ultimate name reveal!

Cribs 'n Stuff

Well hello everyone from the other half of the White's. My wife has been urging me to make a post to this blog so I guess I'll finally appease her. We finally got the crib put together this weekend. Bec's dad and I put it together yesterday. It really was not that hard at all. We didn't even have to get the glue out! I think the crib looks very good. Here are some pictures of the crib as well as the dresser.

Everything else is going very well. Unfortunately I have managed to throw my back out so I've been pretty useless this weekend. I need to get it taken care of before these babies arrive because I can not afford for this to happen after they arrive. That's all for now. Hope everyone is doing well!

Winter Days

It was nice to get an extra hour of sleep (or time to do things) last weekend. Next year, I have a feeling it may not be so enjoyable - retraining the internal alarm clock of two 8 month olds! However, I doubt it will really make a difference, unless they are just fabulous sleepers. However, some seem blessed in that department, like my cousin Chrissy's 9 week old Ellie....who consistently sleeps 8-10 hours per night. Mind you, this is the same cousin who joked for months that I was going to have triplets, and who was mildly speechless when she looked at the ultrasound pictures and saw the word, "Twins". Payback for that girl is going to be F - U - N!!! She just needs to remember that Chip and Dip will be in little Ellie's class, and they may have a few tricks up there sleeves!

With the days growing dark early and the temperatures getting cooler, we spent some time preparing for the arrival of the little ones at the hospital this past week. Last Monday was epidural class and Saturday was childbirth class. We are required to do the epidural class (if I even want the possibility of an epidural), but childbirth class was optional. I'm glad we did both, although I grew even more adamant that I do not want to have a c-section....so please direct your prayers that the babies are healthy and both head-down when the time comes. Kerry was a couple of hours late to childbirth class due to a broken airplane, but my mom came with me until he arrived. Of course he missed the stages of labor and several other things I would have liked him to be familiar with, but he walked in on the guided imagery part of the class. For some reason, I don't think that technique will be too successful for me (having Kerry describe a calm place). He tries, but his heart just isn't into it. This Saturday is breastfeeding class...should be interesting with twins! Kerry is REALLY looking forward to this one...hehe!

My parents were in St. Louis this weekend and picked up the dresser and one of the cribs for the nursery. The other furniture is still not in, but Kerry at least has one crib to get started on. My brother suggested a team contest....who can put a crib together the fastest....but I haven't heard any set plans. I bet it will be up to Kerry. I'll take pictures when the task is accomplished.

Have a great rest of the week ~

Chugging Along

Kerry and I went to our regular 24 week appointment yesterday with our doctor. Dr. Morton was very helpful in answering all of our questions. As far as the tightness and cramping are concerned, he pretty much said that it will only get worse. However, he reassured us that it will not harm the babies...just be uncomfortable. To sum it up....my uterus is not happy right now. It thinks that I'm well over 30 weeks pregnant, and it has grown and is growing rapidly. Nothing is going to make it happy other than to deliver those boys. Obviously, that is not an option.

Our ultrasound from 4 weeks ago revealed that one baby is in the 63rd percentile, and the other 57th percentile. The doctor called them chubby, but I would much prefer them to be chubby and healthy, then scrawny (although I don't consider those percentiles chubby, just a bit above average)! When he went to listen to their heartbeats, he commented that maybe I wasn't as big as he originally thought....then he measured me. Yep, I've grown. He said they just might be 9 pound babies...and I assured him that I was confident that he wouldn't let that happen! He detected both babies...one about 150, one about 140.

As far as our other questions, he is not able to tell if they are identical or fraternal twins (as we suspected). I suppose we will talk to the babies doctor about that - not that it matters at all.

The only way he will consider a natural birth is if they are both head down. Out of all the changes that I've dealt with over the past few weeks, this is the one I'm probably struggling with the most. I dread having a c-section. I know that I will be fine during the surgery, I'm just not very enthused about the recovery. I hate feeling helpless, not being productive, not being able to care for my babies as I would like, and having to rely on others. I know this is the reality of a c-section, at least for a short time. However, I know that I have a good 5-6 months with them before I head back to my big kids at school. I was hoping that he would consider a natural birth as long as one of the babies was head-down. In my research, often times they are able to maneuver the second baby. However, he is also concerned that having a natural labor, even with both babies positioned correctly, could be a long, drawn-out affair.

Our next appointment will be in 4 weeks. I will have a glucose test, ultrasound to check on their growth, and see the doctor...busy afternoon!

After our appointment, we attended the epidural class at the hospital. Kerry whined about it, but it was rather painless. The presenter explained the difference in the epidural and the spinal block, which is what I will enjoy if I get to go under the knife. There were several women there with their husbands, a few with their mothers, and a few by themselves. It sure makes me grateful for my support...including my whiner of a husband.

My mother and I had a successful shopping trip to Macy's Sunday. I spent less than $50 on 20 outfits for the boys. I mostly bought 9 month outfits that they can wear in the fall....short sleeve shirts and pants...just play clothes. I haven't been buying many clothes as I figure we may receive several for gifts, but I couldn't pass up these deals. They all came with bibs, and several with socks as well. We felt like successful shoppers! We did buy a couple of outfits that would work for hospital pictures or take home outfits that are newborn size (hopefully they won't be too big to wear them!).

Thanks for checking in on us. Things have been going great. For those of you who have read previously, you know that I have been blessed with such an easy pregnancy....NO morning sickness at all! Well, things are slowly starting to catch up with me. For a month and a half or so, I have been having tightness and cramping, nothing too intense or worrisome. When we found out that we are having 2 boys, that tightness and cramping made sense. However, this week, things are much more intense. Monday, I took my class on a field trip to Pioneer Orchard, a local orchard near our building. Due to budget constraints, we had to walk. I really didn't think it was that far, and I've been moving around fine, so I had very few reservations about making the trip by foot (it ended up being about 2.5 miles round trip). I lead the classes, and moved at a good pace. I felt good on the way there, just a bit of cramping as we were nearing the orchard. However, on the way back, I was really concerned that I was going to have to call school and get someone to come get me. However, I just slowed down, and made it okay. I was miserable the rest of the day and through most of the night. It continued on and off Tuesday and then Wednesday I finally called the doctor's office. I explained the situation and simply told them that I have no experience to draw on. She suggested I come in and see the nurse practitioner, so Kerry and I headed in this afternoon. As hoped, the babies are fine. She was able to find both heart beats - Baby A was 155 and Baby B was 146. I'm also not dialating or thinning. She suspects that a lot of what I'm feeling is just my uterus expanding quickly. However, there are times that my stomach gets very hard and the pain greatly increases. These are possibly contractions. She assured me they are okay as long as I'm not dialating. She also said they are not unusual for someone in my position. I still don't have any restrictions, I just need to listen to my body, take it easy every evening, and limit my movement if possible during the day. I can handle that if the babies are okay! We will head back to see the doctor in a week and a half or so.

I promise to post pictures soon, but have been forgetting to bring the camera home from school. Just a warning though....this belly is getting big!!!!

Preparing the Ark

Kerry was going to do the blog entry this week, but for some reason, has nothing to say. Actually, I just think he doesn't know where to begin. We accomplished a lot today. Kerry came home yesterday evening, and we spent today reorganizing our basement. When we moved into our house, my dad installed shelves. It was plenty of room, but throughout the last year and a half, they filled up. I refused to have more shelves built, so we just consolidated and made lots of room for new things for the boys. Kerry also created a sitting area on the other side of the basement, and he and my dad got the ice-maker hooked up on our recently acquired fridge from my grandmother. It was a task that Kerry began independently as he reassured me he could handle it, and although he didn't create a waterfall from the waterline, it leaked at the contact point in the refrigerator. Therefore, he had to call in my dad for reinforcement. I hope that our boys somehow have some mechanical/technical skills.

With my parents here, we decided to go ahead and move the furniture for the room which will be the nursery, to our office/extra bedroom. So, now we have an empty room, ready for paint, and a very full room for any over night guests.

Speaking of paint, we still haven't decided what color to paint the room. I ordered the crib set months ago, after we found out we were expecting. However, when we discovered 2 babies, I sent it back in order to get something more reasonable. So, my paint plan may change as well. Check out the bedding (visit our target.com registry), and let me know if you think we should go with green or blue.

Our cribs and dresser are now ordered, and will be available for pick-up in a week or so. I've been calling the South County Babies 'R Us to check on the status, but as of Thursday, they still couldn't order it. My dad happened to drive by a different Babies 'R Us that evening, and decided to stop in to break up a long drive. He checked on the cribs, and they could order it. Yesterday, we did get a call from South County. We'll post a picture when they arrive. We may not use both cribs initially, but when they start waking one another up, they will get their own space.

Kerry took a belly picture tonight, and thinks that I should post it. It is frightening to me!!! I'll do my best to get it posted sometime this week. You deserve some type of reward for reading this unexciting post. Enjoy your week! Pretty creative we thought. She can even point to my belly and tell me which baby is which. I've also heard the babies referred to as Huey and Duey (thanks Chrissy, Jason, and Ellie), Pete and Repeat, and Cuffs and Links. I'm sure the list will grow.

We've stayed busy this week planning for these two little guys. Naturally I'm a planner, but I suppose I do feel a bit of a time crunch knowing there are two on the way. There are several people at school that are twins, or have twins in their families, and most delivered just before or at 36 weeks. That would put the babies arrival at the beginning of February. However, I just don't think that I will feel like painting, organizing, etc. over Christmas break with as big as I may be (My dad reminded me repeatedly when we found out that I'm going to be miserable-thanks dad!).

I'm planning on working as long as possible, thankfully I have a GREAT group of kids at school who are already pitching in when needed. I just have to realize that I need to let them come to me, instead of me going to them. I think that my assistant principal is trying to find a sub for me beginning in February. I'm for sure going to take off a full 12 weeks, and have requested time off through the end of the year (per board approval). The babies will be 5-6 months when I go back to work in August, so I feel more comfortable with that. Kerry and I realize how difficult it will be when he is working and I am by myself. Thankfully, we have a lot of extra hands available to help!

My mom and I also spent time researching and registering at Target and Babies 'R Us this week. I wanted to wait on Kerry, but he assured me that he didn't mind (he isn't a very good shopper anyway!). We found it difficult to decide quantities on many items, but it was fun. I know we've missed some things, but we'll fill in the gaps in the next several weeks. We also tried to purchase the baby furniture (2 cribs, chest, and dresser), but didn't have any luck. We have a rain check, but can't wait too long to see if the furniture is going to be restocked as some takes 10-12 weeks to arrive. I should put a little plug in for Babies 'R Us though, they offer a twin discount on larger items (cribs, car seats, etc), if you purchase 2. We were a bit surprised.

Thanks for checking in on us!

Technical Difficulties Fixed

Sorry to those who have tried to leave a comment without success. Although we both have moments of doubt, we realize that this is such a blessing. Honestly, I think after we get through the first few months, things will be great. Everyone that I've talked to has said that twins are fairly easy because they entertain and soothe each other. I just hope they are both good sleepers!

We have been asked many questions, so I thought I would begin to answer them in this post tonight. If you have other questions, just leave a comment with the question. No question is off limits....if we don't want to respond to it, we will not. Also, we would love to know who is actually checking out this blog, so leave us a message! We appreciate your support!

1. How far along are you, when are you due, and how have you felt?
I'm 20 weeks along, so halfway to full term. Our official due date is Feb. 26, 2009, but during our brief visit with the doctor on Monday, he told us that multiples typically deliver at 36-38 weeks. I'm going to try to be prepared to deliver at the beginning of Feb., but of course the longer we can wait, the better for the babies. I have not been sick at all the entire pregnancy - I am so lucky! I have been tired, and did take about a half-hour nap everyday during summer break. I occasionally will still take a nap, but usually can't find the time.

2. Do multiples run in the family?
My grandma has sisters that were twins. They were born 87 years ago...this is the first set since then. Kerry's grandfather was a twin, but from our research, it relies on the woman's body.

3. Are they fraternal or identical?
We don't know. They are both in their own sacs and placentas, which is the best case scenario because they each have their own food supply. If the egg split at 3 days after fertilization, they will be identical. However, it is more likely that they are fraternal.

4. Did you have an idea you were pregnant with twins?
I joked about it a lot with Kerry, but of course he was in denial! I told him on several occasions that there has to be more than 1 baby in my belly for it to be growing so big. Even the morning of the ultrasound, the thought ran through my head. My mom has been saying for 2 months that there are two...she was right! So, I suppose the true answer is no, we had no idea....but I never ruled the thought out. I just never thought it would happen to us!

5. Can you feel the babies?
Yes, although it is not consistent yet. I also have periods were my belly is very tight and I feel like I'm having mild cramping. The doctor said this is normal....there is just a lot growing in there.

6. What do you know about the babies?
According the ultrasound, they are very active! They were both 11 1/2 ounces and their heart rates were both 146 BPM. These numbers are very normal for normal or a multiple pregnancy. They will grow as a normal baby until 28-30 weeks, at which time they will begin to get very snug and their growth will slow down.

I will continue with answering questions in the next post. We look forward to hearing from you!

'You have enough energy and enthusiasm for two people.'

The title above says it all. It was Kerry's fortune at dinner tonight. Mine and my dad's fortunes (notice times two) was 'A sweet surprise awaits you'. That couldn't be more true. We had an exciting and informative ultrasound this afternoon. We are the proud parents of TWINS! No, I am not kidding! We are both excited and overwhelmed at the same time. More details to come tomorrow when the jitters have hopefully subsided. However, as promised...I will leave you with photos (the evidence for those who do not believe me). Be sure and check back in for all the details. In the mean time, we ask for your prayers to keep the little ones safe and growing healthy. As far as we know (the doctor will review the ultrasound tomorrow), all is well. Oh, and if you are wondering....I'm going to be outnumbered...they are both little boys!

Here is a pic of both kiddos together, labeled 'A' and 'B'.

Above: Baby 'A' (currently on my right side head down)
Below: Baby 'B' (currently on my left side head up)

Announcing...

We are pleased to announce that some very special 'Extra Baggage' will be joining our family next year!
